Touch anywhere on the bottom half of the screen and a joystick appears under your thumb: slide to fly Wick around. You don't need to aim or tap to attack, because Wick's friend fireflies fight the Murk all by themselves.

• Pick up the light motes that beaten Murk drop. Each level-up pauses the action and offers three cards: choose a new friend, an upgrade or a passive.
• Survive the 10-minute night. Big Murk turn up at 3:00 and 6:00, and the zone boss at 9:00. Beat the boss and dawn breaks.
• You can pause at any time with the pause button.

Your light is your health. The glowing circle around Wick shows how much light he has left: when a Murk bumps him it shrinks, the darkness closes in, and you see the next Murk later. If the light goes out, the night ends.

Embers fill the light back up. They drop from some Murk, from lantern posts and from bosses. Hover next to an unlit lantern post for a moment to light it: it bursts into embers and makes a safe pool of light for a while that the Murk avoid.

Every friend firefly has a matching passive. Raise the friend to level 6 while you carry its passive, and an evolution card can show up at your next level-up. For example, Zip with Focus Lens becomes Comet Darts. Recipes you discover are saved in Wick's journal.

Clearing a zone unlocks the next zone, plus two new ways to play the one you cleared:

• Hard: more and tougher Murk, and 50% more glow coins.
• Endless: no boss, the night just keeps getting harder. Your best time is saved.

There is a new 5-minute Daily Night every day, and every player gets the same one: the same zone, the same firefly and the same two twists. It changes at midnight UTC, which may be evening or early morning where you live. The night is built on your device from the date, so it works offline and nothing is sent anywhere. Your best result and your streak are kept on your device.

You earn glow coins in every run and spend them in the shop on lasting upgrades, new fireflies and Wick skins. They can't be bought: the game has no in-app purchases at all.

Only on your device. There are no accounts and nothing is uploaded, so progress does not move between devices. If you close the game or switch apps in the middle of a run, the run is saved and the title screen offers Continue your night.

In the browser version, progress lives in your browser's storage for this site. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings, or using private browsing, removes it.

Open Settings and choose Reset progress. This erases your cleared zones, glow coins, upgrades, unlocked fireflies and skins and your journal on this device, and it can't be undone. Deleting the app does the same.

Open Settings and pick a language. The game speaks English, Español, Português (BR), Français, Deutsch, हिन्दी and Bahasa Indonesia.

Yes. The app needs no connection at all, and the browser version keeps working offline once it has loaded. The Daily Night works offline too.

Settings has separate switches for music, sound effects and vibration, and a reduced flashing option that calms the bright effects. You can also replay the tutorial there.
